Guide to Market Governance

Propose new markets or changes to an existing market.

Market governance follows the Vega governance process, i.e. sense check, formalise proposal, submit a proposal, vote to exercise your influence, and apply changes.

Guides to market governance:

:star2: New markets
Make a proposal for a new market and sense check your idea by creating a topic about it in the market governance subcategory, for example:

I propose creating a [product type e.g. futures] market using [oracle description] that settles in [settlement asset e.g. tDAI] because [compelling rationale for why this market would be valuable, and who for]

You will need to add the following additional information (in JSON or similar) for the proposal to become formalised and ready to submit to the network for validation. You can add any of this at the Sense Check stage if you already know it to bolster your case, gather support and move to formalisation faster.

  • Market name and code
  • Oracle / data source the market will use for settlement
  • Risk parameters - the model to calculate margin requirements and ensure safe trading
  • Price monitoring parameters (optional)
  • Liquidity monitoring parameters
  • Liquidity commitment (optional)

:pencil2:Updates to an existing market
Propose a change to an existing market and sense check your idea by creating a topic about it in the market governance subcategory, for example:

I propose updating market [existing market ID, name and code e.g. ‘2a4ffc50d602a74ab84a7be7209c8ac3f65980d980e07b8b8a1cfce563a1419e’ ‘Apples Daily v3 (APPLES.24h)’] so that [compelling rationale for why this change would be valuable (or detrimental not to do), and who for]

You will need to include additional information about the change (in JSON or similar) for the proposal to become formalised and ready to submit to the network for validation. You can add any of this at the Sense Check stage if you already know it to bolster your case, gather support and move to formalisation faster.

  • Market name and code
  • Product type
  • Instrument
  • Settlement asset
  • Oracle / data source the market will use for settlement
  • Risk parameters - the model to calculate margin requirements and ensure safe trading
  • Price monitoring parameters (optional)
